On June 28th, Mr. Guo Dan, a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Literature of Fujian Normal University, visited our university's Wangdao Lecture Hall and gave an academic lecture titled "Appreciating the Ancient Classic 'Zuo Zhuan' - Three Reading Methods of 'Zuo Zhuan'" for our faculty and students. Professor Yi Xiaoping presided over the lecture.
Mr. Guo Dan briefly introduced the latest research results and personal views on the relationship between "Zuo Zhuan" and Zuo Qiuming, "Zuo Zhuan" and "Spring and Autumn Annals" in the academic community, as well as the similarities and differences between "Zuo Zhuan" and "Gongyang Zhuan" and "Guliang Zhuan". He shared his academic experience of reading "Zuo Zhuan" from the perspectives of Confucianism, history, and literature. Mr. Guo Dan emphasized that the reading of Confucian classics should make full use of authoritative old annotations to understand the history of Confucian classics and academic history; Reading historical works should recognize that "Zuo Zhuan" is the foundational work of Chinese chronicle history books, pioneering a grand historical narrative; Literary reading should conduct in-depth analysis from the perspectives of plot, character images, details, diplomatic language, and poetic descriptions.
Mr. Guo Dan interacted and exchanged ideas with the teachers and students present, answering various questions from everyone. The lecture is rich in content, detailed and engaging, and highly inspiring on how to read classics carefully, cultivate one's character, and apply them to practical situations.
