Humanism is the foundation of human progress and the cornerstone of national rejuvenation. For universities, humanism embodies their spirit and legacy. School of Literature Arts at Guangxi University originated from the Department of Literature at the College of Liberal Arts and Law, established in 1936. Renowned scholars such as Chen Wangdao, Wang Shijing, and Qin Si successively served as department heads, and a distinguished group of professors and scholars including Chen Yinke, Wang Li, Lu Qinli, and Sha Shaohai have graced the faculty.

Academic Programs

Currently, School of Literature Arts offers a first-level master's degree programs in Chinese Language and Literature, which includes eight second-level master’s programs:  Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, Chinese Philology, Classical Chinese literature, Ancient Chinese Literature, Literary Language and Literature, and Comparative Literature and World Literature. It also offers a professional master's degree program in Chinese Language Teaching to Speakers of Other Languages. In recognition of its academic excellence, the discipline of Chinese Language and Literature was approved as a key discipline in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in 2013.

Research and Centers

In 2019, School of Literature Arts was honored as the “Research Center of Literature and Culture,” underscoring its pivotal role in advancing humanities and social sciences research within Guangxi's university community. Furthermore, its commitment to excellence in undergraduate education has been acknowledged with provincial recognition for its programs in Chinese Language Teaching and Chinese Language and Literature.

School of Literature Arts is home to several esteemed research centers: the Research Center of Literature and Culture of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the Chinese Classics Research Institute, the Center for Linguistics, and the Institute of Cultural Creativity. Additionally, the school has established several teaching and research bases, including the Language Research and Talents Training Base of Guangxi University (jointly developed with the Center for Chinese Linguistics, Peking University), the Guangxi Yongfu Chinese Fu and Longevity Culture Research Base, and 10 off-campus teaching field bases.

Faculty and Achievements

The School places a strong emphasis on faculty development, currently boasting 41 full-time teachers. Among them, 15 are professors (36.6%) and 15 are associate professors (36.6%), with 92.6% holding doctoral degrees. Over the past five years, the School has published nearly 300 academic papers and 44 monographs in prestigious journals such as Social Sciences in China, Studies of the Chinese Language, Literary Review, and Cultural Heritage. It has also received many awards for research and teaching excellence, including the second prize of the 8th University Scientific Research Outstanding Achievement Award from the Ministry of Education. Notably, the core program "History of Ancient Chinese Literature" has been accredited as one of the first batch of national first-class undergraduate courses.
